Hi there,

How do you create a purchase order in Odoo if the items you are buying are not inventory items, but should be booked straight to a GL account?

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your answer, but this means that for each GL item I might need to make out purchase orders for, I'll have to create a consumable inventory item. Is this the normal behaviour? Is there no way to make out a purchase order straight onto a GL account without this going through inventory at all?

I'm aware of creating a bill directly in the accounting module, but then there is no purchase order - we require a purchase order.

1. A consumable product is not stockable and therefore has no inventory.

2. This is normal behaviour for ERP systems and procurement workflows, a purchase order has the purpose of ordering products or services from a vendor, you do not order an amount on a particular GL account. Vendor bills are different, as there is no workflow, so you can create vendor bills without products directly to GL accounts. If you want to have both, you could also create dummy products or services for each required GL account and adjust the prices accordingly on the purchase order lines.

You can raise a PO for a consumable item and receive it as normal, or can you create a Vendor Bill (Purchase Invoice).

As per Ermin's comments, the Consumable item could be a "generic" product related to a GL account (e.g. "Chair") and then change the description and prices on each PO.
