I would like to make list of several items, each accompanied by a checkbox. I would then like to show the fields that have been "checked", and not show anything for the fields that aren't.

Is this manageable in the open_office_report_designer, or would I need to write my own code to do this?

if you make a module with your own code/fields, you should be able to use those new fields after installation of your module.

You can use those new fields like any other field of a model.

To answer your question:

You need to write your own code to make the fields and/or the checkbox(es), and modify the report with open_office_designer (or other means to create a .sxw or .rml document).
