The release notes for Odoo 17 mention "Transfer Splitting"

Split transfers, e.g., to plan deliveries, to deliver to different addresses, to assign different parts of the transfer to different users.

This suggests a new solution for the need for multiple delivery orders / delivery dates per sales order, which currently requires either the use of back orders (which are not appropriate for use cases involving scheduling deliveries) or custom development. 

Our own use case is similar to how blanket orders operate in Purchasing. A customer will agree an order for, say, 10,000 widgets, with the expectation these will be deliveries in multiple deliveries over many months. Say 800 initially, then a further 2,000 planned for x weeks later, and so on.

The deliveries being irregular both in terms of date and quantity of product mean using Subscriptions or a separate SO to represent each delivery does not work. While we may plan to deliver 2,000 in x weeks time, the customer may request we deliver only 1,500 next; the remaining 500 then need adding to a future planned delivery.

We commissioned a custom module for 16.0 that is functional but complex. With the many improvements to inventory in 17.0, especially the new reservation method, it seems it may be possible to create similar functionality without as much custom development.

I have searched the documentation and tried a run bot t​o try to learn more about Transfer Splitting, but I have found no reference to it other than this release note. Can anyone help me find more information on this new feature, or explain its functionality here?
