I'm using the eCommerce app to rent out rooms, and I’ve made sure that my rooms are listed as products in the inventory. In my settings, I’ve unchecked all options related to shipping since I’m renting out rooms, not shipping physical goods.

However, when I go to Settings > Inventory > Shipping > Shipping Methods and uncheck this option, I receive a warning that several apps — including eCommerce — will be uninstalled. After this uninstallation, my online shop disappears, which of course is essential for renting out my rooms.

When I reinstall the eCommerce app, the shipping methods setting is automatically re-enabled under Inventory settings.

As a result, I’m unable to disable the shipping step during checkout for room rentals.

Does anyone know how I can remove the shipping step while still keeping the eCommerce app active?


Or does someone have better recommendations/alternatives for renting a room on the Odoo website.

Odoo Studio V18 means Odoo Enterprise?

For Enterprise especially - use the Rental app:

Install Rental (technical name sale_renting) and eCommerce Rental with Stock Management (technical name website_sale_stock_renting).

Once set up, create a Can be Rented-product of type Storable Product

Here you have two options: 

  • one product per apartment/room, each with an On Hand quantity of 1, or
  • one product for multiple, identical apartments/rooms, with an On Hand quantity reflecting the number of those identical rooms

In addition, on the Rental prices-tab on the product make sure you set at least one Period Price. Furthermore, for a meaningful workflow, you should unset Out-of-Stock Continue Selling.

When you view the product in the website, you should see something like this (note: 1st of July to 14th of July is highlighted red because this apartment has a On Hand quantity of 1 and has been booked in that time range already - thus, can't be booked again [Out-of-Stock Continue Selling -> no]):



Now, the shipping address part - which is applicable to Community as well: You can refer to https://www.odoo.com/forum/1279368#answer-279375 as it has been explained there already.

Main points are:

  • disable the Shipping Address option - not the Shipping Methods option
  • ensure you have a dummy Delivery Method active and published
  • adjust the templates of the checkout to ensure irrelevant blocks are not displayed


Alternatively, again applicable to Enterprise - and not exactly relevant to your use case, since this comes without eCommerce: One may take a look at the industry package Real Estate for a CRM-based approach: https://apps.odoo.com/apps/modules/18.0/industry_real_estate
