Invoicing - choose customer by name or by pet's name

Question

Hi,
I uploaded an app ("Animal") that allows you to create a pet and link it with its owner name. In order to link both, I first have to create the customer into the accounting module and then I can select it in the app.
When I create the invoice (accounting module), I would like to be able to choose the customer or by its name or by its pets name.
Does anybody had this case? Or anyone who would be able to help me knowing I'm a total beginner in coding! The database is running on Odoo 17.

Hello,
This can be accomplished by using the "Reference" field on the customer record, under the "Sales & Purchase" tab. If you enter the pets name in that reference field, you will be able to select the customer by their name or by the reference.

I would create each pet as individual contact and then link to a customer as other contact.

This would ensure you can invoice the customer even if you search by pet name (believe as default the name appears as customer name, pet name). Furthermore you would have the ability to keep pet specific notes if any.
It is possible to import contacts from spreadsheets, you would however need to create contacts and then link them.
Don’t believe you need any specific app for this.

Do you believe there is a way to automatise this process? There are more than 700 pets on the database...(considering some owners have multiple pets)? Or maybe I should not use the app "animal" anymore and consider the pets as "products/subproducts"?
