I am using professional Odoo 16.

We purchase aluminium sections from the vendor and invoice is using the per kg unit of measurement.

Then onward, during receipt, shifting to warehouse, we use length as a unit of measurement.

Once we process the raw material we manufacture Aluminium windows and we sell these products on per Sq. ft. basis.

I am new to Odoo. Will someone here who have come across such a scenario can help me and give me solution?  I am facing problems while entering product, creating quotation, during manufacturing process as well as invoicing.

Since these units are of 3 different categories I think these would have to be 3 different products in your system and use Manufacturing to convert between them. The stored product with length units would have a BOM which has the purchased product as a component in kgs.

After each receipt of the purchased product you would have to create an MO to consume the purchased product and produce the stored product. That could probably be automated.

Then the aluminum windows would use the stored aluminum as a component in its BOM.

I hope that helps.

Hi,

Handling different units of measurement for purchasing, inventory management, manufacturing, and sales can indeed be complex, but Odoo is equipped to handle these scenarios.
Here's a general guide on how to set up and manage such a scenario in Odoo 16:

* When creating a product in Odoo, define the default purchase unit of measure as kg. This will be the unit you use for purchasing and invoicing from the vendor. Set the default sales unit of measure as sq. ft. since you sell the final product using this unit.

* When you create a purchase order for the aluminum sections, Odoo will automatically use the purchase unit of measure (kg) for the quantities. When you receive the items, they will be added to your inventory in kg.

Hope it helps

Thank you for a detail reply. I will try it for sure. However Aluminium extrusions are invoiced on the basis of weight but we can not receive it by checking weight. We have to receive them in number. Moreover we can not handle inventory in Kg but in number only. That's the bottleneck for me to go ahead. Can you provide some solution on the same?

Hello MALWIN INFRATECH PRIVATE LIMITED,

I hope you are doing well.

I wanted to bring to your attention the flexibility in assigning different units of measure for both purchasing and selling products.

In cases where the unit of measure option in the sales settings is enabled, you will notice two distinct fields within the product's form view:

Unit of Measure: This serves as the default unit of measure for all stock operations.

Purchase UoM: This acts as the unit of measure specifically for all purchase orders.

It's important to note that the selected unit of measure in the "Purchase UoM" field should belong to the same category as the default unit of measure.

I trust that this information proves helpful for your operations.

Hope it will be helpful to you.

Thanks & Regards,

Thanks Kalpesh. My concern is bit complex here. I am invoiced on the basis of weight. I can not receive it in Kgs but have to receive in terms of number. I have to handle inventory in terms of number and unable to handle in weight. Further while selling it to the customer I have to prepare invoice per square feet.... !!! Don't understand how I should go ahead. By the way thanks for reply
