Can Odoo do what we need?

Hello,

we at Maintenance are currently using a homemade Redmine system to meet our needs for a computer-aided system for internal repairs with a spare parts warehouse. It's not really comfortable or pretty - but it works ;)

We hardly get any support from our IT department, because that's just how it looks.

Now I came across Odoo by chance.

I installed the system locally using Docker, watched a few videos about it and skimmed through the documentation.

Our IT department should really like the look and feel of this - but personally it doesn't seem very productive to me. Can the following workflow be created with the Odoo Community Edition?

1. A machine operator has a problem or damage to his system and creates an issue

2. A maintenance technician receives this and assesses the problem - and documents it.

3. Required spare parts can be taken from the warehouse or ordered if there is a shortage. 4. Purchasing receives a notification if there is a shortage and orders the parts - these are then stored again via the warehouse.

5. The maintenance engineer repairs the system, documents this and notes the spare parts installed in the issue.

6. All processes are clearly documented and can be tracked at any time (history of damage to a machine and tracking of spare parts including serial numbers)

I have various "apps" here such as maintenance, repairs and projects - but none of them can communicate with each other or are directly linked to the warehouse.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello Jaideep,

thank you for your answer.

Creating a "smart button" already means manual programming and only provides a link, it is not a migration of both processes. Likewise, the connection between issue and repair can only be realized via linking, right?

That's not really what we're looking for - so I think we'll look at the possibilities of redmine again...

Hi Carsten,

Couple of points here..
1. Odoo has community and Enterprise and there are certain Apps which are available only in Enterprise. lStudio is one such App which allows for making changes from UI than programming.
In the answer below the link was created using Studio

2. As suggested below the helpdesk App already provides the links

3. The link is a suggestion, it is very much possible to have the stock lines tab directly on the maintenance request. Or even the functionality of repair integrated into the maintenance App.
This would surely require customization especially in the community edition.

The reason for recommending a partner is for them to be able to suggest the best possible approach.

Thanks again for your information.
We are a small department here and have no budget - but we want to create something that we want to make available to the entire company in order to ultimately make our work easier - in our opinion we have managed to do this with Redmine, but acceptance is not so great because it is seen as too complicated.
That's why we are keeping our eyes open for alternative "OPEN SOURCE" - Odoo is advertising it very heavily, but I am not yet convinced. When I look at the prices of the Enterprise version, I get dizzy - I think it is outrageous to charge €25 per user per month. With 50 users in mind, we will soon only be working for Odoo! A fair model would be a one-off payment per version with reduced upgrade prices - I personally do not support subscription models (one reason why I do not own Netflix and the like)
So much for the Enterprise version - for the community - well, if the first answer is "find a paid service provider" - then in my opinion this is not what we are looking for...

Who knows, maybe I will get really bored after all, then I will program my own system - until then I will think about what else can be tinkered with in Redmine (with the support of its community) to improve the look and handling and thus increase acceptance...

I am only speaking for the two of us from a small maintenance department of a printing company - your model may well be suitable for many other companies and user groups - I wish you the best of luck.

Yes, it is possible to have this flow in Odoo.

Inventory App (believe you are referring this as Warehouse) manages product stocks and integrates with repairs app (spares used in repairs will automatically decrement stock) and also with purchase app.

As default maintenance app does not have a link to repair app, but it is very easy to make one with a smart button

The helpdesk app already has this functionality as default, however the app is only available in the Enterprise edition.

Would recommend working with a partner who might assist with the customization of community edition
