We would like to restrict any editting in both Product and BoM. I have allready setup the PLM and EcO but it is still possible to edit without having an active EcO.

For us, it is essential that all changes to product or BoM goes through "Change Control". It is my understanding that for this all kind of user settings and edit restrictions are needed and/or further custimization would be needed.

I understand that easy editiing is heplfull during set-up. But now that all my data is enetered correctly, all BoM and product details are filled, I dont want anyone to change anything is this data without change control (through EcO). I also understand that this might limit quick changes, but after setting everything up, changes to data should be limited...

I can imagine that we are not the first compnay that would like to use "stringent change control (CC)". I would love to get information on how to set this up, and if needed to purchase customization packages etc, that is not a problem. For us having CC is essential.

So if anyone has set the system up sing stringent CC/EcO or has customization done to have it set up: I would like to learn how/what is done and get in contact

This hepls for sure.

Based on what I have been reading I think we can manage most (if not all) of our wishes by making groups and making sure that as little as possible persons have admin rights. As we are a start-up we currently only have 3 persons working in Odoo. As I am a strong advocate for CC, I am thinking to set the system up using 4 accounts: 3 user accounts with permissions limited and 1 admin account. Normally all 3 would wordk using their standard account and only when we have to change something that needs an admin function we can log on using that account.

However I have read quite some informational topics, I still would like to have it set-up (and or checked) by someone with more background in Odoo than me..

Would it be possible to set everything up, more than willing to pay for consultancy etc

Hi,

Odoo’s PLM and ECO modules help structure change management, but they don’t fully block edits on Products or BoMs. Even with ECOs in place, users with rights can still open the forms and make direct changes, bypassing the change control process. By default, Odoo assumes companies want ECOs as a best practice but doesn’t enforce them strictly.

To implement stringent change control, you need to restrict direct editing rights. This can be done by removing write permissions on Products and BoMs and only allowing changes through the ECO workflow. With this setup, users can still view data but must raise an ECO to request modifications, which will then be approved and applied.

https://www.odoo.com/documentation/master/applications/general/users/access_rights.html

For better enforcement, you can also add custom logic so that any attempt to edit Products or BoMs directly shows a message directing the user to create an ECO instead. Enhancements like a “Propose Change (ECO)” smart button on forms make the workflow user-friendly while keeping full control.

This type of setup is common in industries that require strict change control, such as manufacturing, aerospace, and pharma. Many companies either configure access rules carefully or implement small customizations to ensure that all modifications flow through ECOs only.

Hope it helps
