I know it was quite huge from 6 to 7 but as I understand there whas a very big gap between those two. Will it be a similar leap upgrading from 7 > 8?
From what I saw so far 8 seems to be more about adding functionality then changing the approach. So maybe what has been there in 7 will be just similar there in 8 and therefore the switch might be simpler?
The upgrade is quite simple with OpenERP Enterprise. Upgrade is free as part of the maintenance contracts.

In terms of change, there are probably more changes between v7 and v8 than preceeding versions, especially v6.1 -> v7 that were mostly changes in views. Changes in v8 that impact everything: wms, related buttons, report engines, new API, accounting taxes.
No template is there because there is no version 8 yet! It will be there when there is a version 8 released.
