Does the multi-company can be used if the companies are located in different countries ? I mean, is it possible to configure one accounting localization per company within the same instance ?
For example, one company in France, one in the US, one in Brazil ?

Yes It is possible you can create multiple company with different location/country..
In OpenERP we create COA for each company where you can select your localized chart for given company..
