I had to try a bit and to save your time to find the error yourself, here is the solution. So that the update does not run to the "Error Opening file for writing" error, the Odoo server must first be stopped, otherwise overwriting is not possible. Quite logical, since you can't just overwrite the files of a running process.
- Right click on the Windows symbol - start "Run" - type in "services.msc" and open it
- Search for the "Odoo Server" process and right-click on it to stop the server
- Install the update by selecting the folder in which Odoo is installed see also here https://www.odoo.com/documentation/14.0/administration/maintain/update.html
- After completing the installation, start the server. This is normally done automatically at the end of the update process if the tick is not removed. Otherwise use steps 1 - 2 or restart the machine completely

Hello Peter, it is not necessary to take this detour under Windows. There is a ready-made installation package for Windows, which installs the required components. If something should be missing after the installation, this can be installed additionally afterwards. Here you can easily download the .exe file: https://www.odoo.com/de_DE/page/download (use communitiy version)
I don't really see what your comment has to do with the topic.
Please note that updates are easy to do but upgrading to a next higher program version is only possible with a special upgrade code, which may be freely available after a few years, the upgrade is otherwise possible for a fee and the community version then automatically becomes an enterprise version, which of course is no longer free.
I'm sure there are other ways to do it, however I can't say anything more about this as I haven't done it yet.
Also serch for upgrade Odoo on google for have more details to it.
