I backed up my database, but due to a combination of not being able to recall the admin password, and errors that occur while restoring the database file, I think I've given up on trying to restore the entire database. However, I have a lot of files from the inventory management that I really want to keep (I spent many many hours entering them). Can I restore this data from the backup? Maybe from the filestore folder?

The filestore contains frontend and backend assets, images and attachments if I remember it correctly. So no. The only reasonable why is to restore your database. Please use Google to find how to recover your password and solve errors until you got your database back.
