I am migrating an Odoo project from version 7 to version 18.

In Odoo V7, we were using the Aeroo Reports module, which allowed us to generate reports directly using pre-designed .xls files as templates. This was very convenient for creating complex reports.

Now, during the migration to Odoo V18, I would like to know:

  • Is there any equivalent or similar module in V18 that provides the same functionality as Aeroo Reports?
  • Or is the only option to redesign the reports from scratch using the built-in Odoo reporting tools (QWeb, XLSX report, etc.)?

Any guidance, suggestions, or references would be highly appreciated.

Hi,

Aeroo Reports used in Odoo 7 is not maintained anymore and has no stable version for Odoo 18.

Because of this, Aeroo cannot be used reliably in modern Odoo versions (15–18).

There is no official equivalent module in Odoo 18 that works the same way (using .xls templates).

The recommended replacement is the OCA module report_xlsx, which lets you generate Excel files in Python.

For very complex Excel layouts, you can load a pre-designed XLSX template and fill values using openpyxl or xlsxwriter in a custom controller.

Printable PDF reports should be rebuilt using Odoo’s QWeb reporting engine.

For heavy Excel reports, a hybrid approach works best: QWeb for printing + XLSX export for spreadsheet output.

In real migrations, most Aeroo reports are rebuilt using report_xlsx or custom XLSX templates, because this is the only stable long-term solution in Odoo 18.
