The technical basis of OpenERP is far more modern and flexible as the one of SAPs ERP solutions. The user experience of OpenERP also largly outperforms the offer of SAP. However, in SAPs core market e.g. 250+ employee manufacturing companies, OpenERP still has no significant market share.

In this talk we would like to discuss the potential benefits, challenges and risk to be the first open source solution to heavily address and success in this and especially the SME marlet. We would like to draw a broad vision on the future of open source based ERP systems and how type of community an product evolutik it takes to achieve overall market leadership by 2030.
