We have warehouse that consists of hundreds of freezers. Freezers contain various products, some of them packaged into boxes. My questions what will be proper approach to organize that. Options:
- Register each freezer as separate location.
- Register each freezer as separate package.
In both cases we plan to use either new WMS 8 module or modules for OpenERP 7 that establish child to parent relations between packages. So we'll definitely have packages for boxes that stored inside freezers. But what will work best for freezer itself, package or location?
Please note that we also want to extend OpenERP functionality to help us to control space usage inside freezers. I.e. we want to make OpenERP to assist us with decision where to place products (which freezer is free and does it have enough space). From that aspect packages already have dimensions so if we represent freezers as a package we will be able to specify its size and calculate space used by individual products and products packaged into boxes. In contrast location is kind of unsized thing and if it better represent freezer then we'll have to add dimensions for it (extend model). So for now we mostly considering to register freezers as packages.
Any advise?
Meanwhile we are excited about new WMS module for OpenERP 8 and more likely will got with it. Is there any place to discus it?
