Odoo is the world's easiest all-in-one management software.
It includes hundreds of business apps:
1. The documentation explains the basic kit product relationship.
2. Explains kit product type (storable vs consumable) and the impact on accounting entry (especially cost of good sold)
Prerequisite:
1. Accounting > Anglo Saxon (Track cost of good sold at sales not purchase)
2. v15 plus version
3. Product category: Automated, FIFO or Average costing method.
Product category for Kit, component 1 and component 2
4. Kit product type and bill of material.
Kit product cost $0.
4.1 Kit product as storable:
Kit product: Kit (storable)
Product type: Storable
Kit {storable} product with bill of material: Component1, Component2
4.2 Kit product as consumable:
Kit product: Kit (consumable)
Product type: Consumable
Kit (consumable) bill of material: Component1, Component2
5. Component product configuration:
Component 1 :
Product type: Storable
Cost: $10
Component 2:
Product type: Storable
Cost: $20
Conclusion:
Setup Kit product as storable product, kit components product as storable product as well.
This way, we can have Odoo automatically calculate Cost of good sold and reflect on accounting.
Testing workflow & result:
(To be continued)
1. When kit product set as storable:
1.1 Purchase component 1 from a vendor, $10 each for quantity 1.
1.2 Purchase component 1 from a vendor, $20 each for quantity 1.
1.3 Create a sales order to a customer. Product line: Kit (storable), $50, for quantity 1.
1.4 Delivery shows component 1 , qty 1. and component 2, qty 1.
In the mean time, Odoo automatically creates TWO journal entries.
1.5 When invoice the kit product, Odoo shows the COGS $30 combines with the component 1 and component 2 while invoice $50.
2. When kit product set as consumable:
2.1 Purchase component 1 from a vendor, $10 each for quantity 1.
2.2 Purchase component 1 from a vendor, $20 each for quantity 1.
2.3 Create a sales order to a customer. Product line: Kit (storable), $50, for quantity 1.
2.4 Delivery shows component 1 , qty 1. and component 2, qty 1.
In the mean time, Odoo automatically creates TWO journal entries.
Because component 1 and component 2 product are still storable type of product.
2.5 When invoice the kit product, Odoo shows the invoice $50 but not cost because the kit product set as consumable type, so no cost entry will be created automatically.
