Unleashing the Power of Odoo in Business and Education

Innovation and technology play an evermore vital role in the realm of education and business development. This time around, we have the honor to sit down with Seokjoo Lee, professor at Kookmin University (KMU) and CEO of Seokcheon Sports, to understand how Odoo functions as both a comprehensive business management software and an adept tool for his business courses.

Odoo is an excellent tool that I use for both teaching and as an innovation management solution for my business.

All-in-one Business Management

Located in Gyeonggi-do, Seokcheon Sports is an all-inclusive sports center with swimming, golfing, and other physical fitness facilities. The CEO, recognizing the need for a comprehensive solution, has chosen Odoo to replace the previous system, which focused solely on facility operation management. This all-encompassing platform is set to revolutionize the way the sports center operates.

The sports center utilizes the Odoo Project app to manage all courses, instructors, customers, and facilities from Kanban, Gantt, and list views. While Kanban and list views give a clear overview of all courses' status, the Gantt view allows managers to assign classes in accordance with the instructors' availability and schedule. This simplifies attendance tracking and employee management, resulting in better customer service and more efficient operation management.

Having experienced the power of Odoo with just one app, the sports center is ready for more. It plans to deploy more apps to support more operations. For instance, the Planning app would be perfect for effectively organizing pool lanes for different group lessons simultaneously to maximize space and profit, while the Odoo Subscriptions would be of great help in streamlining membership management and one-on-one lessons.

Dubbing Odoo as "an extensive tool for managing the sports center efficiently," the CEO believes the platform's integrability and comprehensiveness will help other Korean businesses "advance to the next level."

Immersive Teaching Experience

Experiencing Odoo's power in the gym, Lee brought the software into his classroom through the Odoo Education Program, allowing business students at KMU to "witness first-hand how a business software can positively impact the organization." Expectedly, Odoo proves to be an equally powerful tool in business education.

1. Presentation of Value Chain & Strategic Theory

The professor finds Odoo to be a proficient medium for showing his students the value chain of strategic theory.

Odoo makes its services available through over 70 certified apps to serve different businesses. Some of the most popular solutions include the sales management and material requirement planning (MRP) suite.

Odoo CRM, Subscriptions, PoS, eCommerce, and other marketing apps, to name a few, Odoo Sales allows the professor to showcase various business modules—product- and software-as-a-service (PaaS and SaaS), subscription box, and retail and wholesale. By integrating marketing services, such as email and social marketing, into the sales processes, the software is also used in classes to showcase ways to improve customer acquisition, conversion, and retention.

In the meantime, Odoo is also able to simplify MRP and break the processes into apps. The single Inventory app alone teaches students about stock and warehouse management, with the preset picking movements and stock rotation methods. As the course advances, students can also learn more about the production line and procurement procedures through Odoo Manufacturing, Maintenance, Quality, and other apps.

This presents a comprehensive view of the value chain and enables businesses to strategically manage their operations, improve efficiency, enhance customer satisfaction, and drive overall business performance.

2. Realistic Business Management

Odoo is an excellent solution because of its flexibility and scalability, allowing you to introduce apps as needed.

According to the professor, it is crucial to identify the "must-have" features when committing to an enterprise resource planning (ERP) tool. Odoo allows businesses to do exactly that, given its open-source nature for flexible customization, scalability to grow one app at a time, and integrability to connect with localized services.

With Odoo as a teaching tool, Lee is able to map out the many paths of business growth for his students while presenting realistic measurements of the success of ERP implementation for these future business leaders. This aligns with the faculty's aim to nurture pupils with critical and analytical skills.

3. Putting Theory into Practice

Without the Odoo Education Program, all of these would not have been possible.

To bring learning and real business closer together, Odoo offers educators and students 24 months of unlimited access to Odoo online, where they can build databases with limitless numbers of apps and users. A great entry point to connecting business with what is taught at school, Odoo allows students to experience managing an actual company while serving as easy software for teachers to systemize courses and modules.

Through aligning business strategy with IT strategy using Odoo, our aim is to equip students with essential knowledge and skills for both career advancement and business expansion.
