Participant Assistive Products in Kenya, Keoke King
Participant, founded in 2018 by four experts in assistive technology, aims to make high-quality, affordable mobility products accessible to all, especially the 40 million people in middle-income countries lacking proper wheelchairs. Their mission is rooted in inclusion and the belief that no one should be left behind.
As a B-Corp (pending), Participant emphasizes social impact, sustainability, and user-centered design. Their Cub wheelchair has won global recognition, including awards from RESNA and ASME, and their approach—“CreAction”—focuses on co-creating with users for real-world impact.
The founders—Keoke King, Wayne Hanson, Dave Calver, and Ryota Yamada—bring over 100 years of combined experience. Together, they’ve developed 200+ products, empowering people with disabilities worldwide to participate fully in life.
