This might be true, but since 1998 I just use open source sytems, I
don't pay for any software I use, and now there comes odoo. Of course
I'm shocked with that price.

For me this looks very strange, because there are much bigger software
packages which I mentioned allredy, which do not cost anything. So of
course I guess, there is something wrong with odoos Marketing, if they
cannot put this as open source and free. How does postgresql, python,
maybe also java, libreoffice, and so on, where everywhere is a company
behind too. What is odoo making wrong at this point?

Answer is simple. --> "Market Size"

If you want to use pure Free and OpenSource Software "You Can" use CE and develop what you need.

But it does not have anything to do with Odoo, SA. You can use v8.0 and stay there, but you will not enjoy the fast evolution, that's it.
It is the same with almost all tools, every tool has its market, I answered almost all types of business models and their inconvenience in a past email.

To have AN ODOO IN EVERY COMPANY, you need invest Money and R&D on things nobody is willing to pay for.

i.e: One thing is that everybody "can install Linux for free" but to get power in the desktop brand will need:

1.- Dedicated people improving and innovating on user experience.
2.- Dedicated people testing and checking their branded machines.
3.- Marketing promoting those machines.
4.- Commercial agreements in Volume to avoid the investment is done by only 1 company.

Well, that's sadly what Mac and Windows Does which is what we could not do never ever (I am on Linux world by accident since 1998 too).

The answer to your question is that stuff.... To do it well I do not know any other path, sorry, IF you find one, walk it, succeed on it and tell us!.

BTW: May be in 1 year price goes down again, because this "try" on odoo's side fails (it happen before) or goes up (as v6-v7) or may be Fabien try another option... Just time will tell.

What I can say is that today I can have a Full ERP with enterprise features in a 40 User environment with a huge given value for an affordable price in most cases. and I can have only 1 instance with 1 user doing basic things with a ridiculous low price, for me it is fair pay for it (and it is "ok" if you think you don't) it is a matter of PoV.

Thanks for your help!
