Falsified and counterfeit medicines are a serious risk for the citizens all around the world. To protect the patients in the EU from the high risk of any impact of these non-valid products, the EU Council and the European Parliament a new legislation that is mandatory for all EU members. It is a pan-European strategy to fight illegal medicine products.
To be compliant with this legislation, each pharmaceutical RX product needs to have a harmonized safety feature. This features “should allow the verification of the authenticity and the identification of each individual pack”. To make this possible, each pharmaceutical manufacturer has to introduce a unique identifier on every single pack. These pieces of information containing the unique identifier (product code, serial number), batch number, expiry date and optionally additional information need to be collected by the manufacturer and to be submitted to a European database. The setup and management of this repository is part of the delegated act as well. This concept is based on a “Point-of-Dispense/Verification” where at least each dispensing point is forced to make a final verification before a handing-over to the patient. This verification procedure is supported by national systems of each member state.
To support all prescribed actions according to Falsified Medicines Directive we integrated Odoo with NMVS in to assure the requirements for Pharmacies, Hospitals and Wholesalers.
