I have a generic product. Lets say 'QHD 1440p monitor' that i use wiht a fixed price in my quotations. I sell it as a generic specification product, but not a specific brand or so.

Only after the sale is done, so during my delivery phase, i want to assign an actual product from my stock to ship out. Perhaps this week i still have 10 HP screens that match that generic product, but the week after it might be Iiyama or so ...

How would i go about to do that ? 'replace' or 'update' a product in a delivery order but keep the odoo quantities for delivered and product sales order lines working , regarding to sold / sent / invoiced at the one hand , and on the other keep my inventory up to date with the actual product counts.

Hi,

You want to sell a generic product (e.g. “QHD 1440p Monitor”) at a fixed price in quotations and invoices, but only decide during delivery which actual brand/model to ship from stock. In Odoo, this is tricky because sales documents show what you sell, while inventory must track what you physically move. The simplest workaround is to manually replace the product in the delivery order, so stock reduces for the real item, though this may also update the sales order/invoice. A cleaner approach is a small customization where sales and invoices always show the generic product, but at delivery you select the actual items shipped, and Odoo adjusts stock accordingly. This ensures customer-facing documents remain generic while inventory remains accurate.

Hope it helps
