In 1987, BRAC launched a program to improve cattle breeding through artificial insemination, aiming to help farmers optimize their resources and boost milk production. Progress in developing domestic cow breeds accelerated with the introduction of artificial insemination services using liquid semen provided by the Department of Livestock Services (DLS). By 2000, BRAC began producing frozen semen at its own bull station to ensure the quality of artificial insemination and to safeguard the integrity of liquid semen. Today, 4,000 workers deliver artificial insemination services to 3.91 million cows annually across 64 districts in Bangladesh, with frozen semen being produced at two BRAC-operated bull stations.
