In Accounting --> Reporting --> Audit Reports --> Tax Report, when trying to post UK VAT return statement to HMRC portal by clicking "Send to HMRC", the error message is displayed: "The client and/or agent is not authorised." 

On user level, the access authorisation token is populated and valid.

What is the background of this issue?

This is related to an issue with the authorisation on the HMRC-site. The reason for this error message can be one of the following:

  • the client is not subscribed to MTD
  • the agent is not subscribed to Agent Services
  • the client has not authorised the agent to act on their behalf

The fix is not related to any Odoo-functionality, but rather the API-credentials and the user token need to be reviewed. These credentials have to be entered in this part of the user settings:
