RE: Need to find a way to input past inbound shipmentsby
What was the reason the proposed fix was dropped? It would help to be able to create back-dated stock moves even if there are limitations in applicable cases. Other ERP systems I know all allow back-dated stock moves and works consistently in their own ways (with some limitations of course, although I can't remember the detail).

Lionel has perfectly summarized the situation. I'd just add that if what you want is accounting moves in the past, you already have the field "Force valuation period" on the inventory that you can use.

No it's not "absurd", at least from a technical point of view.
We had a long discussion with Odoo SA's Quentin De Paoli about backdating inventory moves in particular, while the WMS in v8 was developed.
TL;DR: backdated moves are not allowed in the standard v8 on purpose. It would have made the code complicated and flaky.
You should expect many parts of the code to be based on the assumption that moves are entered in the same order as they are executed.
You have to be prepared to patch those parts of the code if you allow backdated stock moves.
If your concern is only about accounting moves, maybe stock_move_backdating can be ported to v8 and use the back-date for the accounting moves only and not the stock moves?
I'm CC'ing Quentin as I think he's working on accounting and has led the dev on WMS. Quentin, if you have an opinion about this you're welcome to share it of course!
