many of the abandoned modules have been "certified" - suggesting that they will be supported.

IMO Odoo should
  • announce 6-12 month prior of abandoning
  • provide hooks to allow for easy integration of substitutes. (like the audit trail)
  • eventually find a community member, which will provide a good replacement - but with the help of Odoo.

in the case of audit trail database triggers could do the job without significant performance issues.
All master data are candidates for audit trail - especially bank accounts.

For a revision proof ERP the audit of change and delete operations should be standard.
just my 2¢.

There are any other modules to control security issues?

So OpenERP SA abandoned module BTW would be good read reasons why so anyone here can improve it and make a PR to server tools OCA repo.

Thanks to any OpenERP SA dev reading this to give us technical details about module in that perspective.

For the record, the message the OCA board received when discussing the abandoned addons with Fabien Pinckaers is that there is generally a good reason for the editor to abandon an addon, even if the reason is not made public (which the OCA regrets). In some case a better (in the editor's mind) alternative is provided. In other cases, there are more fundamental issues (e.g. the module does not perform the task it is advertised for very well, or it introduces performances / scaling issues, or the design is not so good and it would be better to start again from scratch).

Before porting a module to the OCA projects, I urge people to think about your commitment in maintaining this module, answering bug reports, etc. related to this module. It's not just a matter of moving a bunch of code from one place to another.
