Thanks for considering the proposal and sending your feedback!

I had several personal emails supporting my proposal, but more than three times that number declining to support (you’ve seen them).

The proposal is withdrawn in acknowledgement it isn’t supported by the majority.

ORIGINAL EMAIL:

PLEASE DON’T REPLY TO THIS EMAIL, REPLY TO ME INDIVIDUALLY - rcarnes [at] ursainfosystems.com -  AND I WILL POST A SUMMARY OF THE RESPONSES I GET.

I’ve been noticing that when questions are asked on this list, the entire conversation between individuals is also carried on via the list, and I don’t think this is the best use of our time.

In other mailing lists I’ve used in the past, the ‘question’ is posted to the list, the ‘conversation’ is had between individuals (saving others on the list from deleting every email that isn’t relevant to them) and the person who asked the original question then posts a ‘SUM’ or ‘SUMMARY’ of the answers to the list when the conversation is over.

I’d like to propose these same kind of usage guidelines to this list.

QUESTION: goes to the list email address

CONVERSATION: between individual email addresses – this includes ‘Did you try this?  What do you mean?  I’ve done this, are you interested? I want this too!  You should look here!  Do it this way!’ etc

SUMMARY OF ANSWERS: goes to the list email address

This way we all get the questions and the answers, and get the chance to have conversations about them without involving those who don’t choose to.
