That would be wonderful indeed, when customers pay your for work on
documentation, your cost is compensated, and you could live with the
open development & Free-as-in-Freedom model. Even more so: you (and me
and everyone) could contribute an incremental bit to the mass of
documentation and all could benefit. In fact that's in part how it works
with the software development as well, right? Maybe that's optimism, but
how would we do better? If its along the lines of openness & freedom I'm
sure many of us can and will contribute.

That said, I agree that leadership is needed, and that requires
investment. I'm still hoping for S.A. taking at least a partial
responsibility here.
