Re: Version 7 - what release to install?by
stable branches (7.0, 6.1...) do not receive new features patches, only bugfixes. So, we consider them to be stable.
For production enviroments, we use stable branches at specific commit. That is, we freeze the installation and we don't install updates unless we need specific bugfixes.
Moreover, not every bugfix is merged into official branches. This is why OCB branches exist and we often use them in our installations too.
Thanks Lorenzo,As a followup to your answer, do consider the github branches to be stable? 7.0, for example, is updated on a very regular basis, and I’m unclear as to whether it is being used by the odoo community for development purposes, or if only stable patches are merged into it. It appears from the merged pull requests that the odoo team is using an odoo-dev repo for development, which would indicate implied stability in the odoo repo.Thoughts? Does anyone have recommended best practices for when to update your production installation with the latest pull from github, or nightly?Nick

We use the github code retrieved at fixed revision with buildout.
