Fabien,

I think you underestimate the importance of paid for modules in establishing a profile for odoo whereby potential customers can immediately see a menu of opportunities and level of independent professional development. For too long there has been little or no effort expended by developers in explaining what their modules do - the typical situation in v8 was for there to be zero explanation or demonstration in the module's description, and it being practically impossible for potential users to assess what odoo can do without getting locked into extensive discussions with developers. Which busy executibe looking for an ERP for their business has the time to do that every time ?

Thankfully with your introduction of licensing to permit paid-for modules incentives have been established to explain precisly what a module can do, why you should pay for it, and to give potential customers the chance to believe that there may be long term support provided for those modules.

If you do not currently have a category that reflects the contribution to the overall marketing of odoo that the developers of paid-for modules make then you should have, instead of dismissing the contribution of their entire class, a class which I might point out you specifically went out of your way to establish. You should send out a consistent message to developers.

regards

James

Hello,

For partners awards, the nominees are mostly based on their performance; # of new customers, retention of existing customers and the feedback we got from their customers. It's mostly based on numbers, but we add a subjective point of view to be sure that they do quality services.

For contributors award, it's more subjective as contributions can have different forms: translation, pull requests, issues qualifications, community modules, etc. So, we have exported different statistics from Transifex and Github and, based on that, we did a subjective decision to balance the different KPIs. The exact reasons why these people have been nominated will be explained during the ceremony of Thursday, during the week of Odoo Experience.

We value more contributions to the core product (master and v9) than people who developed their own community modules. We also value more open source modules than proprietary ones for the contributors award. (mostly because contribution to the core help more people, than community modules). Although Webkul & 73lines have created a lot of modules for the apps store, their contribution to Odoo core is limited, and certainly less than the nominees.

Thanks,

Fabien

Yes, how come no mention of webkul or 73 lines, the first guys to major major contributions to ecommerce modules and themes ? I nominate them here.
