Yeah we have a similar number of delivery vehicles.  All we did was

Extend stock journal, so each delivery trip has its own journal with assigned attributes, like the driver, truck, trailer, time, warehouse etc.
Does a few legal checks like length and total weight is under truck weight limit.
Add a few functions to stock journal to make it easy to add and process deliveries in batch, update some views etc.
Write a simple android app which creates the journal, scans on the deliveries, takes proof of delivery photos and captures customer signatures and adds as attachment to delivery, updates delivery status etc.

I wrote it a few years ago now, but was roughly 10 days dev, plus maybe another 10 in maintenance since.  Probably one of the easier Odoo things I've done.  The android app took a couple of months in the end, but the issues were unrelated to Odoo.  There's no public code, simply because it is tightly coupled to our other business logic so wouldn't work at all for anyone else.  The android app was based off the openerp-mobile framework, but it is so inflexible to work with and not very good for later android versions, that any future work will be with something else.

With removal of stock journal in later versions the concept is the same.  Essentially you want to group a bunch of delivery orders into a logical group.  I'm not at that point in migration, but I imagine we will just add back stock journal.  It works really well.

Does anyone have experience using odoo to manage the shipping trips / distribution of products to customers?

We have 35 trucks that we use to deliver product to our customers. I want to k ow what others who are using odoo for this are doing.
