Re: Database size question

Like anything, the answer is it depends.

Certainly 1 million records would not be considered large.  Many would not even consider 100 million large.  In fact even 100 million inserts a day is not unheard of.

The problem is not the size of the database, your real question should be

Is my business data/odoo user base/usage large in relation to other odoo users, and/or growing at a rate that it will be?

If it is then you need concern yourself with the questions of ORM performance, database optimisation, long term plans etc.  If it isn't, the problems you think you anticipate simply will not exist.  Because other users have met and resolved these issues, probably years before you encounter them.

To expand on that a little more, is odoo a large user of postgres?  The answer is it is not.  There are myriad other applications that make far more extensive and leading edge usage of postgres.  Therefore any performance/storage issues related to database size will be resolved and well known before any Odoo database is large enough to encounter them.

So the issue really comes down to the capability of the ORM, but again unless you are at the far end of the usage spectrum, others will have worked to resolve issues before you ever encounter them. But chances are for the average user, this will never be a problem.

I'm trying to think of a long-term management plan for my data, and I would like to hear some of the experience that others have with managing large databases
