RE: V8 : Knowledge management with webdav reachable from Windows explorer

Hi Nicolas,

We want to open a document ( for example a drawing ) in our Cad and rewrite the adapted document to the document management system. Therefore we need to be able to get to the file as was it stored in a Windows directory. When you want to create a lead or sales order or you want to attach a mailed document to an existing object ( order / lead /… ) you can simply import the e-mail. We have created dedicated boxes where we drag the mails and then we process them as appropriated in Odoo. So an random e-mail demand for an offer generates a lead with all mail attachments direct saved with the lead and, when we can resolve the mail address the correct partner set in the lead.  An e-mail from our own site goes to another box and is processed so all the information is passed to the lead. We have also boxes where you can bring in mails from supplier lead generating tools. Later communication with partners is maximum done from Odoo out, so replies are automatically handled by Odoo. When we generate an object ( lead, order ) automatically by importing from a dedicated mailbox, we place the object in an ‘Autogen’ state first, because you need of course always some user action / verifying to make sure the generation is correct ( when you mostly get orders from recurring partners, then maybe this is not necessary, but mails to our info address can be so divers that max. 50 % is resolved automatically to an partner ).

I’ll test the draft link from Daniel for the Webdav function. Otherwise we will try to build a solution where we use Samba to manage the Ubuntu / windows mapping and make a Odoo cron job to bring files, that are dragged in the Samba directory, in the document management system in Odoo. The Odoo managed files are in the Samba handled directory on our server. So we have a complete solution.

Thanks Daniel for the link !!

With kind regards,

: Knowledge management with webdav reachable from Windows explorer

Eric,

In my brief look at the slides module, doesn't it just share documents on the website?

I have a similar problem to Van Hirtum Johan, we really want our users to be able to drop files onto an Odoo document from there local machine rather than having to use the web interface.  The best example is when we receive an order from a customer via emailed PDF.  We attach these documents to our Sales Order for our records.  Right now, we have to drag that document out of outlook to our desktop, then click on Odoo to attach a doc, then find it in the file explorer.  It's very cumbersome and could be much faster if Odoo created a folder for the Sales Order on the FTP and we dropped files into it.

If anybody has a solution for this, I'd be happy to pay for it!!!

Thanks

Nick

Hi experts,

We want to implement the knowledge management module in Odoo to manage and structure all our company documents. There are Odoo related files ( Sales / partners / HR ) but also CAD drawings and computer / machine manuals with would come in static directories. Those files are mostly opened and saved from standard Windows applications ( CAD program / Word / Excel /…. ). The Odoo documentation states that this can be done with the webdav or Ftp access. We can configure our server and in some Webdav clients we can access the files, but we do not find al solution to open the files in Windows explorer. Has anybody an idea how this can be achieved ?

Thanks in advance !!!

With kind regards,

Van Hirtum Johan
