I don't think that there's an team yet set in OCA for that, but the repo is there.
 
Perhaps we can work under the OCA umbrella to put into a working document all the existing modules as well as new ideas. This shared document could be an start:

I can imagine, for example, for my own email account I would indicate a filter to stop receiving into Odoo mails from "community@mail.odoo.com" (because it may not be a source that I need to specifically manage in Odoo).

Another interesting idea is that each new email address received should create a new contact. That way, you can ensure that you can track, from the contact database, all the associated mails.

I'm updating the specs accordingly.

A lot of users, e.g. sales and support agents, could really use something like this.
A lot of users, pretty much everyone else, would find this duplication unnecessary and burdensome to the system and their own email management goals (infinite unread messages will just hide ACTUAL unread messages).

It would be interesting to see an alternative where you never make an inbox for users, let Odoo collect them through catchall and send them into the user's messages, and then allow POP or IMAP access to Odoo's Discuss module itself. (so that they can have a 'regular' mail client read their Odoo messages)

Again, that may be ideal for some users (and it might save a bit on per-user email fees like Google Apps).

AFAICR Eric from elico did something sround that, be in touch with him.

Excellent BT but take care manage a big volume of emails in the ERP itself is pretty dangerous in terms of performance.
