Re: OCA Sprint proposalby
Thanks Eric this is a very good to know and we can forward this to our customers. Thanks a lot!So all the work already done for the MPR of the OCA site will be outdated when the version 10 will hit the ground. Is this right? As I understood it here on the lists their seems to be 2 complete different branches - the one of OCA which will upgrade the existing and the one of ODOO which will be a complete rewrite, with perhaps less functionality in the community edition than before. Wouldn't it be better if ODOO would work together with OCA on that MPR right the way instead of wasting all that energy in the OCA version which might be incompatible to the ODOO version.IMHO this would be the only way to ensure that also later developments of features could be added to the community edition under the OCA which otherwise would be only available for EE customers. Those additions could be 2 different things which actually do the same thing but with different codings. One under the NDA and the other under EE.On Sat, Nov 7, 2015 at 2:34 PM, Caudal Eric <firstname.lastname@example.org> wrote:Hi Andreas,I dont know if I must be flattered or depressed but I have to state that I am not working for Odoo sa ;).I am a simple partner and eventually member of the OCA board but my words are only representing my personal opinion.I cannot speak on behalf of Odoo sa but I understand (so far) that they will stick to LGPL for the foreseeable future. I know that they probably deserve the everlasting troll (change of license) but Fabien has been clear in his intentions: Odoo will continue with a strong LGPL offer for the community edition and additional specific features (under NDA) for EE.For example, common framework and some standard MRP features will be implemented in v10 Community while extra complex/good selling features (such as PLM) will only be included in v10Entreprise.To be noted that rewritting the MRP engine was unavoidable: it is old (basically the same since v5?), outdated and features do not fulfill current manufacturing challenges. It is the price to get improved usability and functionality coverage for the next version (as we had to for the WMS).As for the OCA (and as lawful representative), we will stick to AGPL as we have done so far and continue adding free (as freedom) community modules to complete current Odoo offer (Community and Enterprise).Hi EricThe same happened with WMS and accounting (and sometimes we are happy, sometimes not... but we finally get used to the new features that we eventually tweak with OCA modules). It seems as beside the MPR Module lots of other modules will face major changes in 10. So it really would be good nd in an Open Source Mind to let the us know what licenses will be applied to those major changed modules. Was the reason to change to LGPL to make all those Modules finally some kind of proprietary? If yes it would be best if the OCA Sprint would focus also on a AGPL Version of the MPR Module to keep Free Open Software Open for everybody. Please let us know what the intention is beside remaking all modules new. Our customers faced in the past multiple License changes and are afraid that it will happen again but this time to be a real money making thing with closed source. This would be sad! Can you ensure that all those remaked modules will still be available like before with an AGPL / LGPL License and that the functionality of those modules will be enhanced and not reduced with those licenses. We at Abstract (http://abstract-technology.com) would like to organize an OCA sprint here in Italy (26-29 of April).
Here you can understand the what, the where and the how of this proposal:
The program of the sprint is up to the partecipants, and we will manage the proposals in this document:
The location we propose is amazing, so is the price of the rooms at this 4* hotel, that includes breakfast and dinner (!!).
We'll have the good south-Italian climate of April, the garden and the pool of the venue, a wonderful landscape and much more.
Hope to see you all in Sorrento in April!
