Re: Odoo 9 - Analytic accountsby
@fp: This sounds both realistic and painful. Painful because manual, Realistic because each company/cfo might have different rules to reallocate/redistribute.
We think analytic distribution is a bad concept. On paper it looks good, but when you use it, it's terrible. It's one of the rare feature that it would have been better to not have it, rather than have it optional.
Because people think they need it but they usually don't.
So they install it, but they mess their db with it. (They don't imagine how error prone and painful it is to record a distribution at every transaction. So, it's rarely clean enough to be useful)
Why you don't need it?
- doing one end of period redistribution transaction is more efficient than recording it at every invoice line. (Works better for subsidies/funds plan, distribution of generic costs) Less error prone.
- doing pivot table analysis, group by and filters is more powerful than a static hierarchy visualisation of the accounts. You don't need multiple plans to analyse on multiple dimensions (especially since we introduced tags in v9)
- sometimes you can avoid multiple plans with a tree structure
I have had several implementations where multiple plans failed and our project manager had to uninstall it afterwards. (Actually much more than customers that actually used multiple plans successfully). Having the module available created false expectations (people think they need it).
On top of that, I guess that only a very few companies used it in v8 because it was buggy and did not covered a lot of use case. (A many2one was transformed to a many2one to another object --> lots of side effects)
Long story short: if you think you need multiple plans, investigate tags in v9 or manual redistribution at the end of the month.

there is a long thread "Accounting Roadmap V9" in this mailing list (121 mails).
Without having looked for it I would imagine any wisdom about this matter might be found there

Yes, I confirmed this too.
There’s no different in enterprise and community about analytic account functional.
Both doesn’t have parent analytic account.
I don’t know why they remove this feature,
Odoo must explain us about this, and tell us about the alternative.

Subject: RE: Odoo 9 - Analytic accounts
With respect to the functionality of Analytic Accounting there is no difference.
Sorry for not being clear.
Pardon me; I'm not following you when you say:
There is no different in the Enterprise version.
Is Enterprise no different from v8, or no different from v9 Community?
In any case, I wonder how hard it would be to port v8 functionality into v9, to get a grown-up product again.

I’m assuming tags can be used for reporting and grouping (what the view type formally did).
What I can’t see is the ability to have analytic distributions, so I don’t see how to do that except if I split a line on the Invoice.
Just wondering if this was intentional or an oversight. Hate to consider it was intentional to force Enterprise, but when there are multiple instances of bugs that make the platform unusable, you have to wonder.
You and me both!
I'd inquired about this just a bit ago too. Seems like Odoo punched a big hole in their Analytic Account functionality for v9. :-( Somebody say it ain't so!

I have an install of version 9 and I am a bit surprised by the analytic account. There is no "View Accounts" anymore, i.e. no parent account possible ?
Any advise would be very helpful.
