Re: Rules for new Posts in the Communityby
Not sure there is a clear rule here that will suit everybody's objectives. Some will like to stay tuned with latest discovery (paid or not) while the purist will advocate for a "no-ads" policy. What bothers me more is the typical mail: "Please check this wonderful feature" and discover later that this is not open source.Second most distasteful would be if we would receive within this ML constant solicitations about off-shore odoo services (like in my spam folder) which is actually not the case today (and hopefully in the future). Other than that, actually I try to stay open to any tendency, paid or not.Last but not least, you get the lost people asking for support of the Odoo online offer...Now, it is difficult to strictly forbid commercial content, all the more with the direction taken by Odoo sa (then any question on Odoo Enterprise or the apps would be technically tagged "commercial"). I personally think that if people comes straightforward and announce that this is paid content, the community will get less frustrated. And for pure purist I suggest that you contact the OCA ML in which for sure there will be no commercial solicitations :).I'm always interested in reading about new modules, free or paid.On Mon, Oct 12, 2015 at 10:38 AM, Ana Juaristi <email@example.com> wrote:
On the other side i see also rigth and helpfull that people promoting modules puts an advertising on email title just to know before opening.
About trainings and events I think they should also be announced on the list and at less onsite/online community organized trainings should be published on oca website events page even if they are paid ones.
Just my humble opinionHi,Community mailing lists contains not only companies involved into Odoo development / consulting, but also end users who would like to use Odoo for their business. I believe they are very interested in getting information not only about free contributions but also paid modules.THere are many useful modules there that for some reason are not in standard Odoo. Good example is Org Chart module (not advertisement, I haven't develoed it =) ). My opinion is that:1) For paid modules on Odoo Apps OpenERP S.A. need to create digest where anybody can subscribe and get digest of latest added modules.2) Regarding community list - if somebody asks about desired functionality, community rules shouldn't restrict providing links to paid apps / modules. It is really limiting users in their choice to only open source modules that may not close their needs. And regarding contributions mailing list that Alexandre mentions - really that is the good way to isolate yourself from receiving undesired messages. But also it is needed to understand that for people who just joined Odoo community it is very hard to understand a variety of mailing lists and organizations around Odoo. Basically nobody cares. So Community mailing list is good single entry point that is easy to understand and easy to join. Do not see real reason to make it too complex.///
Technical Director, XPANSA Group | ERP, BI, E-commerce, Data Mining and DMS consultingFor the record, the OCA has a mailing list for its members, and another one for its contributors. While you obviously need to be a member to post on the former, the latter is open to anyone, and it is a nice place to discuss contributions to the OCA.
