Hi Stefan,

Sorry I'm not the one who started the thread, I thought this was a known

Here at OpusVL we offer migration packages for customers, and what we
often find is that custom modules don't pass the open upgrade, which
makes perfect sense as they have extra fields and other modifications
that a base installation of Odoo don't count on out of the box.

When that happens, we analyse the situation and the extra work, and
generally it all depends on what the module does and how important it
is, and how easy would be to manually port it to the new version.

Another thing we come across is that generally upgrading is done in
hops, one hop per version; so for instance, when we upgraded our
internal Odoo from 6.1 to 8 we did it in two hops:
6.1 ---- 7
7 ---- 8

We had a number of modifications from 6.1 that were incompatible with 8
and came up on the exception report from Odoo. So we decided to migrate
without them for a start, and then porting or ditching what was
considered an exception in the new version depending on usage and new
features available.

Does that make sense?
