Actually, now they joined the last two and named them as SAP S4/HANA 
(formerly R/3 or ECC or ERP + Oracle/DB2):

Regarding the original question, during my times at SAP AG (long time 
ago) it was quite typical that very technical basis consultants fixed 
inconsistent or corrupted data touching directly inside the databases.

Now with HANA DB being hosted directly in memory and as integrated with 
the former SAP R/3 or SAP ECC or SAP ERP, probably is harder to do 
that... but probably not impossible if you got root in the DB server(s).

So, supposing that they are not speaking about the tiny SAP BO, probably 
the SAP marketing/sales guys from the original question are referencing 
to SAP S4/HANA and not to the typical SAP ERP + Oracle. Because in the 
case of Oracle it is an independent product and in that aspect it is 
like any other (serious) database manager in the market...
