Coming out with disruptive new versions on a yearly basis with no clear upgrade path or strategy or tools (how are we going to migrate fiscal period based accounting to the new scheme?; what about the workflow issue in sales?) seems to be very challenging -to say the least- for the Odoo ecosystem.
How many users refrained from upgrading to V7 because of the change in partner paradigm?
Ditto for V8 and WMS?
What are the realistic expectations of Accounting migration into V9?
Yes, a product that does not move is doomed.
And opening up to consensus in the community is a real plus.
But we should not slight the impact of the constantly moving target.
Odoo may be damaging its own image: Yes, lots of change to show the dynamism of the product, the company and the community but once you move into it seems you may be quite locked into the version you choose to implement.
(And I am leaving the Community and Enterprise discussion entirely out of the picture).
I am sure that Fabien and the Odoo bunch must have thought these things in a very thorough way. The fact that it has not been clearly conveyed to the marketplace is another story.
