RE: v9 is there!

Hi Alexandre,

Appreciate the prompt response.

This might sound like a crazy question. As an Openerp provider, companies like mine have to deal with really small customers "eg: A 3 person HVAC company in US needing only CRM" who cannot afford licensing.

Being a partner, will there be a restriction to promote community version?  while pushing enterprise + license for large customers?

Thanks & Regards

Hello Anoop
A few answers are below

<blockquote cite="mid:BAY167-W941A765A3585BE3157DC04C4460@phx.gbl" type="cite">

1.  Once Odoo 9 Enterprise is released, none of the users including partners be having access to this source code, Right?
All partners (having signed the new contract or an addendum to the existing one) will get access to the source code on Github. Access to clients will as well be provided on demand.
<blockquote cite="mid:BAY167-W941A765A3585BE3157DC04C4460@phx.gbl" type="cite">

2. For Enterprise version,  partners can sell on the cloud from Odoo.com just like Netsuite or SAP partners are doing now, Right?
Yes. We are definitely open to doing that more - we simply have few demands at this point.
<blockquote cite="mid:BAY167-W941A765A3585BE3157DC04C4460@phx.gbl" type="cite">

3. How is the customization (Read new Module development) going to be on Enterprise version? Or is this only possible on community version ?
We hope people will develop for both editions. Many modules, if not most, will de facto work on both versions simultaneously.
<blockquote cite="mid:BAY167-W941A765A3585BE3157DC04C4460@phx.gbl" type="cite">

4. Is the release date " 9 days left" only for Enterprise or the community also?
For both.
<blockquote cite="mid:BAY167-W941A765A3585BE3157DC04C4460@phx.gbl" type="cite">

5. I wanted to know whether this switch is more like a Redhat - fedora transition ? Since the community UI is a lot different from Enterprise, will Odoo be giving more importance to keep Enterprise bug free in the future?
We will pay equal attention to both versions. Enterprise edition is an extension of the Odoo Community, which remains the core software. From both a business & technical point of view, we absolutely want to have both editions bug free, evolving fast & strong moving forward.

It has been mentioned in several conversations with Odoo stuff. One reference I have found is this one: https://www.odoo.com/es_ES/groups/community-translators-63/community-translators-13962964
