You can do that with a bill of materials and a manufacturing step. You 
can set up a BOM that makes 6 individual bananas out of 1kg of bulk 
bananas, you just have to have a separate item for the bananas by weight 
to the bananas by piece. I don't know how to do BOMs that consume and 
produce variable amounts of stuff - maybe by scrapping some things?
