Mmmh, you are right the 2M and 2k actually comes from our statistics.

The users estimation comes from the built-in update notification system and 
from the users or partners themselves telling us about big deployments (more 
than 10k users i.e. the portugal integration by thinkopen) where the update is 
usually disabled.

The 2k estimation comes from the github users (previously launchpad), and 
mailing list members.

Independently verifiable data are the number of github followers or forks (you 
have to trust github).

For the daily download and 
online db creation (around 700) i think we could say "Odoo SA report that they 
have an average of XXX installation per day and link to our stats" (you have 
to trust Odoo SA).

Actually i dont care about bragging about the number of users we could omit 
that part.

What i want is to have a clear page about what Odoo the software is. I usually 
prefer to read the wikipedia page about software before reading it's own 
website because it's often more terse and precise.
