Re: Please confirm comments on v9 UIby
before we started spending a few months evaluating odoo, we tried to evaluate a seemingly better open-source ERP called ERP5, all we read about its design was encouraging, however, it was open source only in the theoretical sense, only the framework was available on github. Business logic in ERP5 is written in xml templates which are not to be found anywhere. After ERP5 used the community to create the app, they practically closed it without violating any law. Today, a bunch of people are reaping the fruits of a well designed app; all alone. Community exists no more. What I really hope is that we do not reach a similar fate with odoo.On Sat, Jun 6, 2015 at 11:46 PM, Houssine BAKKALI <firstname.lastname@example.org> wrote:Anyway time will tell us what will comes from this move... for now it's only frustration...From my point of view it's a very bad move for Odoo SA, as we know the out of the box always miss lot of functionalities and the odoo entreprise won't derogate to this odoo habit... What they win, or I should say what they loose, is spreading the forces... from their side first on the open core and the entreprise... and the ones of the community as that they will need to work on community modules to close the gap... And I'm not sure that this move will boost the entreprise contract subscription...agreed with Stefan,And on top of that it mitigate the needs to migrate to v9... backporting the few module that could appear in the community could be less time consuming than planning a whole upgrade thru openupgrade...
It's very simple. If Odoo Community V9 is hardly any different from Odoo V8 (like someone said), there will be more incentive in the community to fork and do the much needed R&D themselves. It's up to Odoo SA to strike the right balance here but the outlook that we got during the Odoo Experience was appaling.
StefanHaving a different UI for the enterprise edition is like rebranding it. Someone in the "community vs enterprise edition" has pointed out that odoo SA never respected promises made to the community and came out with decisions without concertration. So what will be their next move ?Hi community

I think what is happening to the software is far greater than just having "features" in an enterprise edition. I speak my opinion here, that is ridiculous. A different UI? what the...Thank you for the responses.I personally have worked with Odoo since v5. I think its great software. I have also had the opportunity to work with other huge software that has such an enterprise/community setup. The new UI will be in the enterprise edition. Without this module, Odoo v9 will have a similar look and feel to v8.If you like the new UI, you will be able to use it subscribing a contract with Odoo>: > > Hello, > > Another post mentioned that there would be a new UI for v9 that was only available in the enterprise edition of Odoo. But there are many open questions at the moment. Time will show more.
