Exactly thats why we need to cultivate the community, not divide it.
IMHO, have a transparent commercial model is not devide the community.
This is not communism where we need have a Bad Empire and a Good People must the the political strategy.
@anders If you strongly beleive on the community strength you must start for give for free your work in OCA (or whatever way you decide), prepare and finance yourselve to achieve such deal and try to not destroy the work of other to achieve such deal.
I personally live everyday the difficult goal to mantain a payroll and work openly for everybody and do not receive anything (and when I say anything is economically speaking) in return to mantain a high quality for 100% of those developments.
Paid apps is a first try, let us (and to Odoo) make a try without affirm as a total and aboslute true the it will fail, because IMHO it will not.
Community is not a matter of Free Code, it is a matter of coordination, finance, your time and time from others.....
If you see a good closed module, "Try to develop a opensource version for your selve" and put it freely available for everybody... If you think it is feasible, If not use it, finance other stuff and when you have the time do it...
I meam... All your apocalyptical appreciation are not 100% true.... but BTW... it is my opinion some mad guy that put a lot of freely available code for everybody and WILL continue doing it... BUT if there is a commercial model which will help me, I will try it... if it do not work... NO PROBLEM, I personally will try again and again... that is the main point and what (good or bad because I am not agreed with everything done by Odoo, SA) Is trying to do Odoo Here is exactly that.
I prefer have a common Apps store than leecher's companies selling useless and bad tested code on their websites just protituting the market.
The apps store IMHO should be managed by Odoo SA (and may be in the future by the OCA) but let's try it first before say it will fail :-)
Other 2 cents. :-)
