I have no idea, who you are and what role you play in the odoo ecosystem
but you sound like Putin, when he tries to justify the annexation of the krim.

Putin wanted something, the krim, that he knows he can not get "legally", so he 
produces a stream of "legalize" to justify his "I want it and therefore I take it".
You want to cash in on the success of odoo but know, that you can not do it, the 
word legal is missplaced here, lets say in the "spirits of the promisses you 
made" way.
So you produce reasons why you have to do it.
But non of your arguments stands scrutinizing.

I strongly believe the "semi closed source" approach you seem to want to pursue 
prevents you from reaching the goals cited  below.
