yeah, my mistake, I thought you were asking to reset a postgres user command. I would not recommend updating a user password in the database.

I dont think it really matters what standard, the command I gave is a valid command and will work for Postgresql. The question was to alter user password not to use one that meets an sql standard.

Also, your command updates a users password in the database. My command alters a Postgres user password which is completely different. Additionally, I would hope your passwords were encrypted in which case your sql command would not work.

I think you are not asking about Postgresql role password, but the Odoo login password.

I you don't remember your password, you could always reset it, via UI. This is the recommended way.

But as a hack, if you wanna set the password to certain value, you should set on database the field password on res users in clear text, Then you could use this password just once. At the first login it will be encrypted and stored in password_crypt (see module auth_crypt), and the clear text version removed.

What SQL standard you are using (alter user username with password... really?)

With sql-92 standard is:
UPDATE res_users SET password = 'newpassword' WHERE login='username';

Or you can use in form view of res.users the wizard change password.

Hi there,
I would like to change some user password using psql commands:
select login, password, password_crypt from res_users where login =
        login                  | password | password_crypt
--------------------------+--------------+---------------- |                  |
(1 row)

now I would like to set the password of that user.
How would I do that?

thanks for your help
