Well, Gunnar, it seems that we are in the same boat.
My gut feeling is that there is a gap in the design of the multicompany functionality that Odoo (Odoo SA & the community, that is) need to address.
Going to the ever increasing international market requires core functionality and not in-house solutions. At least that is how I feel.

In the meantime for example I am renaming journals and accounting periods with the country code as prefix.
Partners (so as not to alter invoices or documents) get a period or two periods at the end of the name.
Makeshift solutions until we can seriously look at rules.

Just to know in which company the user is standing at there seems to be good help in https://github.com/OCA/web/tree/8.0/web_easy_switch_company

I just setup a similar scenario and face similar issues. My current example is that you see all accounts (even the ones that do not belong to the company the object [product, customer, supplier] belongs to)
Even worse you can use all accounts to assign them as income or expense account to any product / customer / supplier
In other words, you can easily assign an income account of company-A to a customer/product/supplier which actually belongs to company-B

I wonder whether this is just an inconvenience or might potentially end up in a huge mess later on. For example you have many accounting entries from a product from company-A that are posted in an income account of Company-B

I have a post on the help forum https://www.odoo.com/forum/help-1/question/multi-company-still-can-use-company-bs-accounts-for-products-owned-by-company-a-82231 where someone has advised me to use "
record rules to separate one element of a company from another company"
In my case I still need to see and be able to manage all companies objects (customers / suppliers / products) with each user that has the rights to do so. I just would like to disable mixing the accounts as described above

maybe the mentioned "record rules" (still have to figure out those exactly are and how you use them) would be a way for your scenario

Hi, everyone
We have a multicompany / multicountry / multicurrency implementation of Odoo V8.
Our users find that working in such environment is quite demanding since Odoo does not provide -that we know of, at least- of easy ways to separate interaction with the companies.
Yes, of course, you switch from company to company, and you can set up filters to see only suppliers for this or that company. And the same for most views.
But pull down menus, for example, are a pain.
All taxes are shown even though they are not relevant for that company.
And the same for customers or suppliers or ...

Is anyone aware of any extension addressing these issues?
Thank you
