On a side note, and somewhat related, why is it necessary to copy a sales order instead of setting it back to draft? That may not be the best solution for external software integrations.
In this point it is a metter of PoV (not mandatory with my example and you can decide simply set to draf).
let tell the "Why:"
If a customer sent to you Order A.
Then after 3 days asked change N products.
Then salesman (o person in charge) only change in the original one.
"How will yopu trace the fact that you procurement auto-computed where impacted by the old one and no the new one?"
Answer: you will have both documents always, the original and the corrected one.
But it is a matter of PoV in this point, if the fix is because a human error and inmediatly you confirm the order, then a set to draft is better obviously and you are right.
