Progress ONLY comes from change. Things are only obsolete if they no longer continue to function as intended. This would not be the case with prior versions. I for one am very appreciative of the rate of progression that odoo has. it's one of the fastest-growing projects I've seen.

Totaly agree. Would be better to slow down major release cycle to let everyone more time for... everything (learn, correct, migrate, developp, run its business,...).
V7 has "eaten" SAP, V8 has "eaten" Magento and CMSs, V9 might eat Microsoft and V10 the rest of the world, but all of them ate a lot of community energy...

Yes, why just set it for fix cycle, 5 years as an example. Versions increament by 0.1 - Not directly +1 :)

Hello,

I thought I would throw my2cents in. There is a lot of discussion and hype about version 9 coming out. This is interesting considering that most reputable developers have just started porting their work to v8. By the time this is completed v9 will be released and the code funded by the community and just completed will already be obsolete.

Software evolution is important, however it seems like high cost is being transferred to the community and there is a disconnect between the core and the community developers. Perhaps it has been this way for some time, but I am noticing it more.
