Re: How to integrate Pentho BI with Openerp???by

I think it is important to differentiate between the Physical (or virtual) server and the two (or more) physical databases.
The database separation would allow you to not only have different database structures (optimized in each corresponding way, if you want) but also to assign resources as you consider appropriate. To the point that depending of the moment of the day or of the month, for example you may want to prioritize one over the other. And you must not forget that while one holds data the other one is more geared towards information.
This is not a dialectical play of words but meaning that while in the production database you basically keep "separate" data items in the analytical database you will most likely store aggregated data which allows for much more effective trend detection, for example.
(Of course you will not want to penalize the analytical database too much as far as resources are concerned because, after all, the people using it are normally higher up in the corporate hierarchy than the one using the transactional database9.

yes you can... the main benefit of that approach is you can have different database configuration settings so one is optimized for transaction processing and the other one is optimized for decision supportOn Tue, Jan 6, 2015 at 11:12 AM, mihir shah <firstname.lastname@example.org> wrote:Hi Oleg,Can i keep one single database server i.e postgresql for both purpose transaction as well as analysis purpose.????Would it slow down the Openerp system or both can run smoothly on single database server.???On Tue, Jan 6, 2015 at 3:17 PM, Oleg Kuryan <email@example.com> wrote:Hi Mihir,As correctly specified by Amol you have an option to use Pentaho Connector that is developed by WIllowIT https://github.com/WillowIT/Pentaho-reports-for-OpenERP. It gives you possibility of deep integration. Also what you might need to know is that in case you are planning to have large database with complex report queries, you shouldn't connect Pentaho directly to Production Odoo database. As it may slow down performance of the whole system and Odoo users will experience slowly working Odoo. The most requested thing in my experience is usage of Pentaho as separate system or embedding it into existent customer portal (like described here). In that case Pentaho server is not connected directly to Production ERP database. It connects to intermediate database that is copy of production DB and gather all data from there not to influence performance of main system.///
